Surface Preparation

  1. Metal surfaces to be coated shall be clean, dry, sound and free of dirt, loose rust, grease, oil and any other contaminants which might interfere with the adhesion of Elastra. Seal all asphalt and/or coat tar surface patches with an approved stain-blocking primer.
  2. All metal surfaces must be power washed and allowed to dry prior to coating.
  3. Existing rusted areas shall be treated with an approved rust inhibiting primer prior the Elastra application. All sections corroded to the point of weakness or breaking shall be replaced.
  4. All metal sections shall be securely fastened and closed with mechanical fasteners.
  5. Joints exceeding 1/8” in width shall be filled with an exterior grade acrylic caulk. Fabric reinforced Elastra shall then be placed over these areas. Roof opening perimeters shall be treated in a similar fashion.

MIXING

  1. Elastra ER100 shall be power mixed prior to application. Do not thin the material. Do not introduce air bubbles into the mix as it may cause pin holes to form. NEVER ADD WATER TO ELASTRA!

APPLICATION

  1. Elastra shall be applied at the rate of 2.85 sq.m. per litre per coat ie. 57 sq.m. (615 sq.ft.) per 20 litre (5.5 U.S. gal.) pail. A minimum of 2 coats is required.
  2. Each coat shall be applied in a crisscross or cross hatched method – the second coat applied in a perpendicular direction to the first. Each coat must be dry enough to walk on prior to applying the next coat.
  3. Elastra shall be applied by either an airless sprayer or by roller.
  4. Care shall be taken to ensure that dirt, dust and other contamination does not occur between coats.

CURING

  1. Elastra generally cures within 1 or 2 hours at +20 degrees Celsius (+68 degrees F) and 50% relative humidity. Curing time is an estimate and not guaranteed.
  2. Elastra is a water-borne coating requiring UV light and evaporation to cure properly. Evaporations is affected by coating thickness, air temperature, surface temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and available sunshine.

PRECAUTIONS

  1. Do not apply Elastra if the ambient temperature is below +10 degrees Celsius (+50 degrees F) or if there is a possibility that the temperature will fall below +2 degrees Celsius (+36 degrees F) for a period of 12 hours after the coatings have been applied.
  2. Do not apply Elastra if the weather conditions will not permit curing before rain, dew, fog or freezing temperatures. Elastra not fully cured may wash off, loose color pigmentation or freeze.
  3. Do not allow product to freeze. Store between +1 degrees Celsius (+34 degrees F) and +45 degrees Celsius (+113 degrees F).
  4. Product may be harmful if swallowed. Notify a physician promptly. (see MSDS sheets)
  5. Extra safety precautions must be exercised when on any roof surface. Do not walk on Elastra coating when wet as it will be very slippery.

CLEANUP

  1. Clean tools, buckets etc. with soap and warm water. Keep unclean tools in water pail.
  2. Remove lids from empty pails and allow remaining material to dry. Dried material may be peeled out of pail and pail may then be used for other purposes. Dispose of lids in a proper manner.
